It's the week of the turkey. Thanksgiving has arrived once again and as ever, our thoughts are preoccupied with turkey and stuffing and delicious pumpkin and apple pie. I don't know about you but my mouth is watering just thinking about it. While Thanksgiving for most is a time of celebration and family, there are always a couple of things that you as a property owner should mention to your renters. They are simple and few, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. First, there may be an issue of parking. If your resident is having the family over for Thanksgiving dinner, that normally means a lot of cars. If they have a driveway, that should be okay. However, depending on how many people there are and the laws of your town, you should always make sure that your tenant has a plan for parking. Some places do not allow street parking without a permit and others do not allow parking on a lawn. Be sure to make it clear to your tenant what these laws are and if they come into violation of any of them that you are not liable. Second, there may be an issue of cooking. Not much smells better than a well done turkey with all the trimmings. However, make sure to remind your residents where cooking is and is not allowed. Also, please remind them to never drop a frozen turkey into a pot of boiling oil. Every year there are warnings against it and every year we see videos of people who think they can do it anyway. It can cause an extreme amount of damage and can be very harmful to anyone around. At the end of the day, you know your residents. If they're completely unable to cook, maybe a menu from a good Chinese takeout restaurant close by is a better idea.
